The Two MEs
There's ME: wanting to be healthy, happy, in control.
And there's OTHER ME: full of urges, cravings, compulsive behavior, negative self-talk.
They have the same voice - my voice.
But one helps me and one harms me.
The one that helps me is quiet, timid, and weak.
The one that harms me is loud, aggressive, self-harming, and SO urgent.
It can be almost impossible to hear the True Me.
But that is the one I MUST use to guide me through overeating.
When we get good at differentiating, the addiction voice loses power. Our urges soften and release. We feel a new sense of power and authority. It’s miraculous.
But when you’re alone with your own brain, it can be almost impossible to differentiate. Addiction voice sounds like US. We don’t know who we would be without it.
If you’re struggling with overeating as a person with previous addiction history, it’s not your fault that you can’t “get ahold of it” on your own.
You need someone to help you see your thoughts, so that you can recognize and cultivate the real YOU, and to recognize and release the addiction voice.
