Perfectionism
PERFECTIONISM is the language of addiction voice.
It says: “happiness comes from the perfect diet, Spin class for an hour, scale says 2 pounds down – every day, forever and ever, the end.”
We panic and try to do something drastic – like, yesterday – to fix what is broken. We can’t be whole, we can’t be well, and we can’t feel an ounce of satisfaction until we can achieve the happiness perfection dangles in front of us.
But doing these things is hard. We don’t feel inspired; we feel overwhelmed, defeated. We give up immediately and create more evidence that yes, we are broken and we need fixing. Yesterday. (Urge voice is urgent like that).
Here’s the truth: we don’t need fixing. We ARE happy, healthy, whole right this moment. The only thing that keeps us from living this way? Listening to the voice of addiction.
It’s seductive. We fall under its spell. (But, even if we’ve lived under its spell for many years - we still aren’t broken!).
When we learn to distinguish who we truly ARE – whole healthy people – from this sabotaging and harmful voice, we feel grounded, congruent, and deeply empowered.
