Because I want to!

Today, as I set out on a run as part of my training for Ironman 70.3 in September, I thought about WHY I was doing it. And I honestly couldn’t come up with much.⁣

I’m not raising money for charity. ⁣

I’m not going to win any prizes or stand on a podium. ⁣

It’s not my career.⁣

I could be doing a million other things…⁣

And I realized, 𝘐’𝘮 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩.⁣

Not only is it enough - I think it’s the very best reason to do something.⁣

Let’s think about what this complete sentence means - ⁣

“I” - my authentic self. The part of me that feels nourished when listened to. The part that is able to give to others when it is satisfied.⁣

“Want” - This wanting feels open, expansive, good (not defensive or justifying). It’s optimistic, striving, creative, and evolving.⁣

“To” - doing, acting, creating, achieving, showing up, following through, breaking through limiting beliefs, seeing what we’re made of.⁣

This is beautiful stuff, and it’s something I was deeply out of touch with when I first started my overeating recovery journey. ⁣

So, when you ask yourself: why am I losing weight (which takes effort, time, awareness)?⁣

If the only reason that comes back to you is: "Because I want to!”…⁣

…then you’ve got the best “why” in the universe.⁣
