Symptom of Overeating

One of the symptoms of the disease of addiction and overeating craving is an overactive nervous system.

I call this fire brain - when my brain whooshes into an anxious thought cycle and my body tightens up like a coil.โฃ

โฃTo bite my nails.โฃ
To EAT NOW (usually sugary foods).โฃ
To do ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜บ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ to soothe the feeling, take the edge off, to calm down.

What to do When This Happens

When this happens now, I stop and check in with my body. Yep, urgent looping thoughts. Yep, clenched shoulders and stomach. Yes, urgency.โฃ

Itโ€™s my addiction mind blowing something out of proportion. Or, its the generalized anxiety that marks this illness I have. โฃ
โฃ
And from there, I can self-regulate by reminding myself that everything is ok.โฃ
Nothing bad is happening.โฃ
Iโ€™m not in danger. โฃ
If thereโ€™s a problem, itโ€™s figure out-able from a calm place. โฃ
I can breathe deeply.โฃ
I can call a friend or fellow.โฃ
I can get out of my fire brain without external dependency.โฃ
Itโ€™s just my โ€œismโ€ flaring. โฃ

Why it is Critical

This is a critical skill for overcoming addiction transfer. When we learn how to self-regulate, we stop looking for that elusive thing outside of us to feel better.โฃ
